By Laura – 9 December 2021

The cold weather is here and you may find yourself hitting the snooze button more than usual lately. Maybe you also feel like eating more and doing less? Well, that’s our natural response to colder weather and shorter days – you’re not alone. Try these 5 tips to get you through the colder months.

Set Winter Goals

Winter is a great time to reflect on the year past and set intentions for the next year. It’s also a good way to keep your mind focused so you don’t drop into a winter slump. Setting goals every new season also allows your body and mind to adapt to the different weather, light conditions and help keep you productive throughout the year.
Some winter goals could look like:
  • Ski at least 2 x every month this season
  • Disconnect from phone/Netflix and use the time to learn something new
  • Get in the kitchen and cook more
  • Move your body at least 20 minutes everyday

Stay hydrated

It’s just as important to stay hydrated in winter as it is in the summer months to keep your body and mind energized, alert and performing as it should be.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. These can include warm drinks such as soups, broths, teas which double up to give you extra nutrients on top of the hydration.

Make time for soul food

They say food is love and whether you like to cook or prefer to eat out, make space in your routine to enjoy your favorite winter comforts this season to nourish your body and soul. Enrich your meals with nutrients to stay healthy and enjoy the seasonal treats without feeling guilty.

Make time for friends and family

The run up to the holidays can be the busiest time of year for some companies which also means a lot of pressure on employees. Don’t forget to pencil in time with loved ones outside of your work environment to allow you to relax. While we may feel like hiding away, social connection feeds the soul and keep you positive during the winter months. Make the effort to meet up in the real world where possible or set a time to have a call or video conference to catch up with loved ones.

Exercise in a studio or at home

Whether you start a new winter sport to match the season or stick to your regular routine, keep your body active and moving during the winter months. Benefits include keeping your defenses high against illnesses and releasing endorphins that will instantly put you in a better mood.
