Why Power and Spinning are the Perfect Combination

by Kim – June 2 2021

If you’re reading this post, you’ve hopefully already tried at least one of our concepts or you are planning on doing so soon. In this post, we want to show you how well our Power workout goes with our original concepts Veloburn and Velobeat.

Power

Power is strength training on an Xformer machine, which makes it very effective. It helps your muscles to become leaner, stronger and even more powerful. The exercises on the X-Former can help you to increase your stabilizer muscles, so Power can greatly reduce your risk of injury in day-to-day life or while doing other activities like cycling (in- and outdoor), skiing, or hiking, etc. The moves are slow and controlled and your muscles are always under tension throughout the entire workout – that is what makes Power so effective. It’s not about a lot of repetition with high resistance or a lot of weights, it’s about how YOU take control of your mind and body!

More benefits of Strength training are:

  • During strength training, the stress that comes with pushing and pulling helps build stronger, denser bones, particularly targeting those that are most likely to fracture as you age.
  • Strength training reduce symptoms and signs of chronic health conditions, such as depression, diabetes, back and neck pain
  • Increasing your muscle mass increases your metabolism and leads your body to burn more calories even at resting states. Building muscle can be very helpful for weight loss in this way – because you’ll be burning more calories even when you’re sleeping

Veloburn & Velobeat

Let’s take a closer look at our more cardio-based concepts. The aim of these workouts are to bring your heart rate up and make you breathe heavier to strengthen your heart and lungs. Your body needs to work more to provide oxygen and energy to those hard-working muscles. In this process the small blood vessels widen, to keep the muscles oxygenated and help to eliminate waste products like lactic acid and carbon dioxide. Maybe you’ve noticed after a workout that your mood has improved significantly or that you feel better?

The reason for this is that cardio is a mood booster and is known to reduce anxiety, promoting relaxation, and reducing depression.

If you need more reasons to try a cardio workout – here you go:

  • Cardio is an excellent way to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight
  • Regular cardio can help lower your risk for serious health conditions like high blood
    pressure
  • Cardio may reduce the risk of dementia and preserving cognitive abilities

It is well known that the same routine and the same workout, does not lead to noticeable improvements, it can even lead to overuse injuries, burnout, boredom, or fatigue. That’s why it’s important to break out of your workout routine and try something new even if it doesn’t seem easy at first. Ultimately, your body and mind will thank you for it.

A combination of strength and cardio training can enhance your overall fitness, keep you motivated, help you avoid injuries, and prevent your workout life from getting stale!

At Velocity we offer you the opportunity to try out exactly this kind of cross-training. To get a taste of both concepts you can try our Combo classes at the Studios in Enge and in Zug. As the name implies, it’s a combination of Power and either Velobeat or Veloburn, depending on the coach. You start with the ride and then finish strong with a Power session!

Give it a try and let us know what you think about the combination of cardio and strength training.
